Theater History
The New Amsterdam Theatre is operated by Disney Theatrical Productions. It was built in 1902-1903 and named for the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdamn. It was home to the famed Ziegfeld Follies from 1913-1927 before being converted into a movie theater before being redeveloped by the Nederlander Organization and ultimately leased by Disney. The musicals The Lion King, Mary Poppins, and Aladdin have all played in this theater.
